IOC Athletes Commission 365 Career Plus Programme Commences In Edo

The Edo State Sports Commission will play host to a One Day International Olympics Committee organised Athletes 365 Career Plus / IOC Committee Program today Tuesday 5th July, 2022 at the Media Center of the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, in Benin City, Nigeria from 9am through to 4pm


The Athletes Representative program will attract about 40 participants drawn from all the Olympic Sports in Nigeria through the auspices of the Athlete Commission of the Nigerian Olympic Committee ably represented by it's recently first elected Chairman of the IOC AC and former National Basketball D'Tigers Captain Olumide Oyedeji.


Being an IOC programme, it is aimed at equipping the athletes after their playing years. 


According to the organiser of the event, Mr Olumide Oyedeji, "The focus of this very important program for our teaming youths and Athletes is to prepare them for "Life After Competition" You will have noticed that most of our ex-internationals are languishing or suffering because of lack of planing for life after their active days as world renowned athletes. We are determined chane this tend in Nigerian to make life better for our up and coming colleagues so that they can smile in their old age and enjoy their life after a hectic Athletes Carrier. 


Said he "They must be trained to properly use their heydays to invest for their future especially as it concerns education and upgrading their individual skills. The program will assist the Athletes and their Coaches in extension to help program the Athletes towards sustainability of their lives outside Sports. Said Okynia "They need to have insurance cover, a good Educational backup plan, or skills that will sustain them towards living a healthier life outside the rasmathas, glitz and glamourous / flamboyant lifestyle of a Star Athlete!" 


We hope to help emeliourate the situation and profer a better approach to sustainability and an improved better life for Nigerian Sports person's.


 According to the organiser, "We have Kady Kanoute "KK" who is the IOC facilitators coming to help run the program for us. 


He sincerely thanked the Edo State Government for accepting to host this event through the Edo State Sports Commission who have proving to be forward looking in terms of Athlete's welfare.


The Permanent Secretary of the Edo State Sports Commission Mrs Sabina Chikwere representing the Chairman, noted that social delivery was paramount to Governor Godwin Obaseki-led administration, as it would help to improve the lives of citizens, particularly women and children. and we welcome this program to Edo State State at this particular point in time.
