The Nigerian women's team kicked off their campaign at the 2025 ITTF Africa West Regional Championship in style, securing a dominant 3-0 win over the Benin Republic in the finals of the women’s team event, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Led by US-based star Ajoke Ojomu, Nigeria claimed the top spot on the opening day of the tournament, which is taking place at the Molade Okoya Thomas Sports Hall inside the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.

This marks the first of five elite table tennis events to be hosted at the venue. Speaking after the emphatic win, Ojomu praised the Benin team’s performance while expressing delight at the result.

“We are happy, the team is happy. Benin is one of the toughest sides in the region, especially in the women’s category. They played really well, and we’re proud to come out on top,” she said.

Ojomu also shared her excitement about qualifying for the African Championships in Rwanda, while looking ahead to the upcoming WTT Contender event scheduled to take place in Lagos from July 22 to 26.

“We’ve secured qualification for the African Championship, but I’ll also be competing in the World Table Tennis Contender event, so I’m really looking forward to that,” she told Punch correspondent.
