Nigeria clinched the Men’s Team title at the 2025 ITTF Africa West Regional Championships, thanks to a commanding 3-0 victory over Ivory Coast in the final, with standout performances led by Taiwo Mati, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The 20-year-old star, currently playing for French Pro B side Le Havre, defeated his Ivorian opponent 3-1 to set the tone for Nigeria.

Teammates Matthew Kuti and Abdulbasit Abdulfatai followed up with dominant wins against the Oba Kizito-led Ivorian side to seal the championship.

Nigeria’s journey to the title included a walkover win against Liberia and a 3-1 victory over the Ivory Coast in the group stage.

They then swept aside Benin Republic 3-0 in the semi-final to book their spot in the final. In a rematch with the Ivorians, Nigeria delivered another clinical performance to claim the regional crown.

The triumph means Nigeria secured both the men’s and women’s team titles at the championship.

Focus now shifts to the singles events, where Taiwo Mati and Ajoke Ojomo are tipped as strong contenders to qualify for the 2025 Africa Championships in Rwanda.
