Nigeria’s Matthew Kuti and Ajoke Ojomu stole the spotlight on the final day of the 2025 ITTF Africa West Regional Championship, capping off a dominant campaign by clinching the men’s and women’s singles titles respectively, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

In the men’s singles final, Kuti faced off against fellow Nigerian and unseeded surprise finalist Abdulbasit Abdulfatai.

Despite dropping the opening set 11-9, Kuti responded with authority, taking control of the match to secure a commanding 4-1 victory (9-11, 11-6, 11-7, 11-7, 11-7).

The win marks Kuti’s successful defense of his title, making it back-to-back singles crowns at the regional championship.

Meanwhile, in the women’s singles final, Ajoke Ojomu finally broke her runner-up streak with a dominant 4-0 sweep of compatriot Sukurat Aiyelabegan (11-7, 11-8, 11-5, 14-12), clinching her maiden singles title after falling just short in the last two editions.

The tournament ended with a clean sweep for Team Nigeria, who claimed gold in both the singles and team events.

In the women’s team final, Ojomu led her side to a 3-0 win over Benin Republic, while the men’s team, featuring Taiwo Mati, Kuti, and Abdulfatai, eased past Ivory Coast with a resounding 3-0 triumph.
