Iheanacho Scores as Celtic Clinch Scottish Cup and Domestic Double

Celtic F.C. completed a memorable domestic double after defeating Dunfermline Athletic F.C. 3-1 in the Scottish Cup final on Saturday at Hampden Park, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The victory came just a week after Celtic secured the Scottish Premiership title in dramatic fashion, capping an impressive finish to the season under interim manager Martin O'Neill.

Celtic took control of the final in the first half with goals from Daizen Maeda and Arne Engels, putting Dunfermline under sustained pressure before the interval.

Nigeria international Kelechi Iheanacho added a third goal in the 72nd minute, producing a composed finish after weaving past multiple defenders following a precise through ball from Benjamin Nygren.

Dunfermline pulled one back late on through Josh Cooper after an initial effort from Charlie Gilmour had been blocked, but Celtic remained firmly in control to seal the trophy.

The triumph marked Celtic’s 43rd Scottish Cup title and their 14th domestic league and cup double. It also extended the club’s winning streak to nine matches in all competitions.

O’Neill’s latest success added another chapter to his long association with the Glasgow giants. The 74-year-old now boasts nine major honours as Celtic manager across two spells spanning more than two decades.

The final also carried added significance as O’Neill faced Neil Lennon, a former player under him at both Celtic and Leicester City, who currently manages Dunfermline.

Celtic entered the match full of confidence after edging Heart of Midlothian F.C. to the Scottish Premiership title on the final day of the season. The Hoops came from behind to defeat Hearts 3-1 and finish two points clear at the top of the table.

There was little drama required in the cup final, however, as Celtic produced a composed and dominant display to round off another successful campaign with silverware.
