Injured Barau FC Player Discharged – Club President Dismisses Death Rumours

President of Barau FC, Shawwal Barau I. Jibrin, has dismissed widespread rumours claiming that one of the club’s players was killed during their Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) clash against Katsina United on Saturday, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

In a statement issued on Monday, Alhaji Shawwal described the reports as false and misleading, clarifying that the injured player, Nana Abraham, a Ghanaian forward, had already been discharged from a private hospital in Kano after receiving treatment for a neck injury.

He refuted claims circulating on social media that Katsina United fans slit the throat of a Barau FC player, calling the allegations a deliberate attempt to cause panic and disrupt the peace of the football community.

“We glorify Allah SWT that all the injured persons have been discharged, including Abraham, who had a cut on his neck. He was discharged on Sunday night,” Shawwal said.

“The news that one of our players was killed and the throat of another was slit was false. This misinformation was being spread to cause confusion.”

The Barau FC president praised the Nigeria Premier Football League board for the swift sanctions imposed on Katsina United, stressing that such disciplinary measures would help curb future violence and protect the integrity of the league.

He further appealed to the club’s supporters and football fans across Nigeria to remain calm and law-abiding, reminding them that football is a unifying sport that must not be turned into a source of conflict.

“Football should promote peace, friendship, and unity not division or violence,” he added.

Barau FC’s next NPFL fixture is expected to proceed as scheduled, with the club confirming that all players are in stable condition and have returned to training.
