Injury Stops Super Eagles Defender From World Cup Playoff, AFCON 2025

Super Eagles defender Felix Agu has been ruled out of the World Cup playoffs and the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco due to injury, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The versatile Werder Bremen defender sustained a syndesmosis ligament injury last month and has since undergone surgery.

Werder Bremen’s head of professional football, Peter Niemeyer, confirmed that Agu’s recovery will take longer than initially expected, ruling him out of competitive action for the rest of the year.

“His return will definitely not take place until the new year,” Niemeyer was quoted as saying by DeichStube.

Agu’s absence comes as a major blow to Nigeria’s plans ahead of the crucial playoff fixtures and the continental tournament, as his defensive versatility has been a key asset for both club and country.
