Interim NBF president, Omo-Agege writes National Assembly over Transgender boxing promotion

The interim President of the Nigeria Boxing Federation (NBF), Azania Omo-Agege is leaving no stone unturned in ensuring that plans of Nigeria Olympics Committee, NOC and former NBF President, Mr. Kenneth Minimah in promoting Transgender into Nigeria boxing does not succeed, and has requested the intervention of the National Assembly.

Omo-Agege has expressed concerns over the planned visit of World Boxing Federation President, Boris Vandervorst to Nigeria. The visit, facilitated by the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) Chairman, and former NBF President, Mr. Kenneth Minimah, aims to promote transgender boxing in Nigeria.

In a letter to the National Assembly, Azania Omo-Agege alleged that Minimah and NOC are working against the country's customs and beliefs by associating with the World Boxing Federation, which supports transgender fighters.

Omo-Agege argued that this move is not only against Nigerian culture but also puts female boxers at a disadvantage, as they would be competing against biological males who have undergone surgical procedures to become women.

The NBF interim president also pointed out that most of Nigeria's promising boxers are members of the Nigerian Army, and associating with the World Boxing Federation would negate the presidential directive against homosexuality, lesbianism, bestiality, cross-dressing, and other acts deemed contrary to the armed forces.

The NBF has called on the National Assembly to invite the NOC leadership, Minimah, and Vandervorst to explain their actions and motivations. The federation seeks to protect Nigerian boxers, particularly females, from unfair competition and to uphold the country's customs and beliefs.
