International Friendlies: Chelle Eyes Ozoh As Iwobi Withdraws From Super Eagles Squad
By Our Reporter
Fulham midfielder Alex Iwobi has been ruled out of Nigeria’s upcoming international friendlies against Poland and Portugal due to injury.
According to OwnGoal , the 28-year-old suffered a hamstring problem that is expected to keep him sidelined for the remainder of the season, casting doubt over his availability for the Super Eagles’ fixtures scheduled for June.
Head coach Eric Chelle is understood to be aware of the situation and has begun considering alternatives. One of the options is Derby County midfielder David Ozoh, who is currently awaiting international clearance to represent Nigeria.
Ozoh, on loan from Crystal Palace F.C. to Derby County F.C., has impressed this season, making 32 appearances and scoring twice. His performances have reportedly put him in contention for a call-up once the necessary documentation is approved by the The Football Association and FIFA.
Sources close to the coaching crew indicate that Ozoh could be drafted directly into the squad for the friendlies against Poland and Portugal once clearance is secured, while Iwobi has been advised to focus on recovery.
Nigeria will use the high-profile friendlies to fine-tune preparations ahead of upcoming competitive fixtures, with the technical crew expected to assess new and existing players.
