International Friendly: Nigeria, Argentina Clash Put Off

By Sampson Adedeji

The much-publicised International friendly match between Nigeria's Super Eagles and the World champions Argentina has been put off, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The warm-up game was initially slated for March in Hangzhou, China but has to be put off due to Lionel Messi issues.

The Inter Miami forward was expected to appear in a club warm-up game in Hong Kong but failed to show up due to groin injury but his absence sparked a lot of tension which had spread to China.

" As a commercial event, a company and the Argentinean soccer team negotiated that the team would play a friendly match in March this year in the city of Hangzhou," the Hangzhou authorities said in a statement.

"Given the current well-known reasons, according to the competent authorities, conditions to hold the friendly match are not mature, therefore (we) have decided to cancel it".

Super Eagles only win over Argentina came in a friendly affair just before the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
