International Friendly: Poland Coach Urban Pleased With Team’s Display Against Nigeria

Poland head coach Jan Urban has expressed satisfaction with his team's performance despite their 2-2 draw against Nigeria's Super Eagles in Wednesday's international friendly encounter in Warsaw, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The Polish side fought back to secure a share of the spoils, with a late goal denying Nigeria what would have been a second consecutive victory over the European nation.

Reacting after the match, Urban praised his players' response and overall display against a strong Nigerian side.

"The scenario from the previous matches repeated itself we played, the opponent scored. But I wasn't concerned because we played well. And we played well after the goal. It was a good match against a good team," Urban told laczynaspilka.pl.

The Poland coach, however, admitted that his team could have done better defensively to prevent some of the goals they conceded.

"That goal could have been easily prevented.

Up until that point, only Kamil Grabara's clearance created a dangerous situation. I know how everyone should react in this situation. Never mind the names," he said.

Urban also lamented his team's inability to deal with the few chances created by opponents, noting that Poland had been punished despite limiting Nigeria's attacking opportunities.

"The worst thing is that the opponent doesn't create countless chances and takes only two or three. They're very cruel to us. But these are friendly matches; they won't judge us for them."

Despite the result, the former Poland international remained optimistic, insisting that the performance showed encouraging signs ahead of future competitive fixtures.

"Today was a really good match. I didn't feel helpless, looking at the players who had the entire season in their stride during this training camp. I would have behaved the same way after the entire season. I know this from experience," Urban concluded.

Nigeria had looked set for victory after goals from Terem Moffi and substitute Paul Onuachu put the Super Eagles in a commanding position before Poland rallied late to earn a draw.
