The highly anticipated international friendly between Nigeria’s Super Falcons and Portugal’s senior women’s national team has been officially scheduled for Monday, June 23, 2025, in Lisbon, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

 The match, set to kick off at 1 PM local time, is part of the Super Falcons’ final preparations ahead of the CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.

The fixture, confirmed by the Portuguese Football Federation, comes as a major component of a week-long training camp for the Nigerian squad in Portugal. This camp is strategically timed to align with the FIFA international match window, running from June 23 to July 5, ahead of the WAFCON finals, which will take place from July 5 to 26.

The two nations last met in a dramatic 2-2 draw, and this upcoming encounter is expected to provide both sides with valuable tactical and psychological preparation. In addition to the official friendly, the Super Falcons will also participate in a second, closed-door test match against the Portuguese team. One of these matches has been sanctioned by FIFA, offering head coach Justin Madugu a prime opportunity to evaluate his squad in competitive conditions.

Double Test, Final Tune-Up

The Lisbon camp aims to help the Falcons acclimate to European conditions and fine-tune their strategies ahead of the continental tournament in Morocco, where they will be chasing their 10th African title.

Meanwhile, the Super Falcons are set to engage in two warm-up matches against Cameroon as part of their domestic preparations. The first friendly is scheduled for Saturday, May 31, at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne-Remo, with the return leg to be played on Tuesday, June 3, at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta, both in Ogun State.

Head coach Justin Madugu has announced a 23-player roster for the friendlies, featuring key players such as captain Rasheedat Ajibade, goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, defender Michelle Alozie, midfielder Toni Payne, and forward Rinsola Babajide. Also returning to the fold is veteran forward Francisca Ordega, alongside defenders Osinachi Ohale, Oluwatosin Demehin, and Shukurat Oladipo, as well as promising talents like Deborah Abiodun, Jennifer Echegini, and Ifeoma Onumonu.

With back-to-back friendlies and an intensive overseas camp lined up, the Super Falcons are set for a comprehensive buildup to what promises to be a fiercely contested WAFCON 2025.
