Nigerian sprinter Israel Okon will miss the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow after being ruled out through injury, BSNSports.com.ng reports
Okon confirmed the setback while reflecting on what he described as a successful 2026 season.
The talented sprinter expressed satisfaction with his performances, having broken two major personal milestones by running below 10 seconds in the 100m and under 20 seconds in the 200m for the first time in his career.
Despite his disappointment at missing the Games, Okon remained optimistic and extended his support to Team Nigeria as they compete in Glasgow.
"I am content with how my season has gone, achieving my first-ever sub-10 and sub-20 performances," Okon said.
"I wish the Nigerian team and my compatriots a successful outing at the Commonwealth Games."
His absence is a blow to Nigeria's athletics contingent, as he had been expected to play a key role in the sprint events following his impressive performances this season.
