Ivorian FA President Distances Self From Call For CAF Secretary General Exit

The President of the Ivorian Football Federation, Idriss Yacine Diallo, has distanced himself from reports alleging that he called for the removal of the Secretary General of the Confederation of African Football, Véron Mosengo-Omba, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

In an official statement, the federation moved to clarify what it described as misleading publications circulating on social media.

 “Following publications relayed on social networks attributing to the President of the Ivorian Football Federation, Mr. Idriss Yacine Diallo, a position concerning the situation of the Secretary General of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), it is appropriate to make this clarification,” the statement read.

The federation categorically denied that Diallo had at any point publicly or privately demanded the departure of Mosengo-Omba.

 “President Yacine Idriss Diallo wishes to clarify that he has never, at any time, either publicly or privately, and certainly not during the CAF Executive Committee meeting held on Friday, February 13, 2026, expressed any demand for the departure of CAF Secretary General Véron Mosengo-Omba.

The statements and intentions attributed to him in no way reflect his position.” The statement further stressed that, to Diallo’s knowledge, no such call was made by any federation president during the CAF Executive Committee meeting.

 “Furthermore, President Yacine Idriss Diallo indicated that, to his knowledge, no such statement was made by his fellow federation presidents during the aforementioned CAF Executive Committee meeting. He called for responsibility, restraint, and rigor in the handling and dissemination of this type of information.”

The Ivorian FA boss also emphasized the need for decorum amid what he described as a difficult period for African football’s governing body.

"Finally, during this difficult time marked by the loss of the CAF Secretary General, the President wishes to reiterate that respect and decorum must prevail.The Ivorian Football Federation remains committed to the principles of institutional respect, solidarity, and stability within African football governing bodies,” the statement concluded.
