Super Eagles midfielder, Alex Iwobi, has appealed to Moroccan football fans to show understanding and forgiveness towards Atlas Lions forward Brahim Diaz following his decisive penalty miss in the final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Diaz has been the subject of intense criticism after failing to convert from the spot during Morocco’s dramatic final defeat to Senegal, a moment that proved pivotal in deciding the outcome of the tournament.

The miss sparked widespread reactions across social media and among supporters in Morocco, with the player facing heavy scrutiny.

Reacting to the situation, Iwobi called for calm and perspective, stressing that football can be cruel even to its best performers.

“Hello Moroccan fans, I hope you will forgive Brahim Diaz after he missed the penalty kick,” Iwobi said.

“It’s just football; he has had a fantastic performance in the tournament.”

Brahim Diaz was one of Morocco’s standout players at AFCON 2025, playing a key role in the Atlas Lions’ journey to the final with a series of influential displays.

Despite the painful penalty miss, many analysts have praised his overall contribution throughout the competition.

Iwobi’s message adds to growing calls within the football community urging supporters to rally behind players rather than condemn them for isolated moments, especially on the biggest stages of the game.
