Iwobi’s Viral Video Misinterpreted — Officials Defend Super Eagles’ Four-Star Hotel

Officials have moved to clarify reports regarding the accommodation of Nigeria’s Super Eagles ahead of their 2025 CAF World Cup playoff semifinal clash with Gabon, following social media claims suggesting the team was lodged in substandard facilities, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

On Monday morning, a short video shared online by Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi appeared to show a rundown environment allegedly linked to the team’s hotel in Rabat, Morocco. The footage quickly went viral, sparking criticism over the perceived quality of the Super Eagles’ lodging.

However, team officials have since debunked the claims, explaining that the video misrepresented the actual situation.

“The Super Eagles are camped at Rive Hotel, a four-star facility capable of hosting any top national team,” an official clarified. “What circulated online was simply the view of an old building visible from one of the hotel windows, not part of the hotel itself.”

Officials further explained that Rive Hotel was selected by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for logistical reasons, particularly its proximity to both the team’s training complex and the match venue in Rabat.

Nigeria will face Gabon in the semifinal of the CAF World Cup playoff, with the winner set to meet either Cameroon or DR Congo in the final. The eventual champion will represent Africa at the FIFA Intercontinental Playoff scheduled for March 2026 in Mexico.
