Japanese Coach Shinya Tomonari Appointed Nigeria Baseball National Team Manager

The Japan African Baseball and Softball Promotion Foundation (J-ABS) has announced the appointment of its representative, Shinya Tomonari, as the new manager of Nigeria's national baseball team as the country intensifies preparations for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Tomonari, 61, brings a wealth of international experience to the role, having previously managed the national baseball teams of Ghana between 1997 and 1999 and Tanzania in 2014.

The Japanese baseball administrator has also been credited for his pioneering work in South Sudan, where he managed the country's only baseball team and played a significant role in promoting the sport in the region.

 His contributions to the development of baseball in Africa have earned him widespread recognition.

His appointment is expected to strengthen Nigeria's ambition of building a competitive baseball programme capable of challenging for qualification to the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

Tomonari's extensive experience in developing baseball in emerging nations is seen as a major boost for Nigerian baseball as the country seeks to establish itself among Africa's leading teams in the sport.
