Anthony Joshua overcame a dramatic opening to stop previously unbeaten knockout specialist Kristian Prenga in the second round of their heavyweight contest in Jeddah, preserving momentum toward a potential blockbuster showdown with Tyson Fury later this year, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Joshua's night began in disastrous fashion as he was knocked down twice within the opening moments of the fight, the first from a powerful uppercut that briefly raised the possibility of a major upset. Prenga, who entered the bout with 20 knockout victories from 20 wins, looked poised to deliver one of the biggest shocks of the heavyweight division.

However, the former world champion responded emphatically. Regaining his composure, Joshua unleashed a series of powerful right hands in the second round that overwhelmed Prenga and forced the referee to stop the contest, improving his professional record to 30 wins from 34 fights.

The victory marked Joshua's first appearance since the tragic car accident in December that claimed the lives of close friends and members of his team, Sina Ghami and Latif "Latz" Ayodele. A visibly emotional Joshua dedicated the win to their memory.

"It's more than punch power. That was spirit, that was Latz, that was Sina, that was the families," Joshua said after the fight. "It hurts to even talk about it. It has been tough. It's my brothers."

Joshua's victory came a day after Tyson Fury secured a stoppage win over Polish veteran Mariusz Wach in a non-televised bout in Thailand. While Fury ruled out traveling to Saudi Arabia for a face-off, both fighters have now emerged victorious, keeping plans for a long-anticipated clash firmly on course.

According to promoter Eddie Hearn, contracts for the bout have already been signed, although a venue has yet to be finalized. While Wembley Stadium remains a possible option, Hearn has indicated that organizers are favoring the United States to host the event.

For years, boxing fans have awaited a meeting between Britain's two biggest heavyweight stars. Following victories for both men, the long-discussed contest now appears closer than ever.

Speaking about the potential matchup, Joshua expressed confidence while acknowledging Fury's accomplishments.

"I am going to rip his heart out. I am the meanest and most vicious champion there has ever been," Joshua said before adding, "All jokes aside, I respect everything he has done and achieved, but we are here now. I hope the fans will be in for a lovely treat."

Joshua also praised Prenga for his performance despite the defeat.

"He's a strong guy," Joshua said. "He is going to do well and has a bright future. He is strong and durable and gave me a good test, but this is what champions do—we get knocked down, we stand up, and we find a way to win."
