The road to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) is getting clearer for three teams after securing wins in their opening match at the ongoing Nigeria National League promotion play- off in Asaba, Delta State.

Four-time NPFL winners, Kano Pillars alongside Katsina United both got relegated two seasons ago and were both seeking quick promotion back to the elite division after topping their various Group during the regular league season.

Meanwhile, on Sunday, Kano Pillars defeated EFCC FC 1-0 in the opening game of the Northern Conference group before Katsina shot to the top of the group with a 2-1 defeat to DMD FC.

A renowned striker in the Nigerian league, Victor Mbaoma, opened scoring in the 14th minute warding off two defenders to calmly slot home the ball beneath the reach of goal keeper Ayo Ojo in goal for DMD while a defensive mix-up six minutes later handed Mbaoma with another opportunity to score as he found himself one on one with the DMD goalkeeper again and he didn’t fail to accept the offer, finding the net with the outside of the foot with style and panache.

Saidu Salisu, however, got a goal for DMD from the penalty spot after there was a handball by Katsina United defender as the game ended 2-1.

Sporting FC of Lagos pipped FC One Rocket 1-0 in Southern Conference game while Stormers FC held Heartland FC to a goalless draw.
