Ajayi showed great composure and acceleration after leaving the blocks poorly, recovering brilliantly in the latter stages of the race to secure victory in his heat and book his place in the next round.

The Nigerian held off a strong challenge from LSU's Jaiden Reid, who finished closely behind in 9.95 seconds.

 Reid's time equaled the Cayman Islands national record, adding further significance to a highly competitive heat.
