Both Kasarani and Nyayo Stadiums have undergone major renovations, now meeting top international standards for the CHAN 2024 tournament.

Kasarani will host all Harambee Stars’ group games and the final, while Nyayo Stadium is set to host other crucial Group A matches and serve as CAF headquarters.

Hosting CHAN 2024 is expected to boost Kenya’s economy through tourism and is a vital step in preparing for the 2027 AFCON.

With the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) just weeks away, Kenya is showcasing its fully renovated Kasarani and Nyayo National Stadiums. These venues now meet high international standards with new playing surfaces, enhanced seating, and modern facilities. As Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania co-host this major football event, the stadiums’ readiness promises a great tournament and highlights Kenya’s ambition for future events like the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.

Kasarani: A Modern Marvel Ready for the Finals

Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, a 60,000-seater stadium, has undergone a comprehensive upgrade since 2023.

The VIP and VVIP areas have been significantly modernized with cushioned, foldable seats, cup holders, and increased legroom, aiming to provide a premium viewing environment.

The playing surface at Kasarani has been entirely overhauled, featuring a new artificial turf and an improved drainage system, ensuring optimal conditions for high-stakes matches.

Additionally, the dressing rooms and auxiliary facilities have been revamped to meet CAF and FIFA specifications, offering state-of-the-art spaces for athletes. 

To further enhance spectator engagement, two large LED stadium screens and a cutting-edge sound system have been installed. 

This extensive facelift positions Kasarani not just for CHAN 2024 but also as a potential venue for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Kenya has been tasked with hosting all Group A matches, which include formidable teams like two-time champions DR Congo, Morocco, Angola, and Zambia. The Harambee Stars will kick off their campaign against DR Congo on Sunday, August 3rd.

The government, through officials like Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya and Principal Secretaries Dr. Raymond Omollo and Elijah Mwangi, has consistently expressed confidence in Kenya’s readiness, emphasizing the significant investment in infrastructure and the commitment to delivering a world-class tournament. 

Beyond the sporting spectacle, the government views CHAN 2024 as an opportunity to boost the local economy through increased sports tourism, benefiting hotels, restaurants, and local businesses, and creating jobs in the hospitality and transportation sectors. 

The successful hosting of this tournament is seen as a symbol of Kenya’s renewed ambition on the African sports stage.
