Knee Injury: Belgian Feels Sorry For Boniface

Ibrahim Lateef

Belgian midfielder Senne Lynen has expressed his sympathy for Super Eagles forward Victor Boniface, who will be unavailable for the remainder of the season with Werder Bremen due to a knee injury, reports BSNSports.com.ng.

Lynen and Boniface have known each other since 2022, having played together for Union Saint-Gilloise, where they made a name for themselves in Belgium.

Last summer, they reunited as teammates in Bremen when Boniface joined on loan from Bayer Leverkusen.

However, it seems their paths will once again diverge this winter, as Boniface is sidelined with a knee injury that will require surgery to secure his career.

Lynen expressed his sadness over Boniface's unfortunate situation at Werder Bremen.

"I feel sorry for him that he’s in so much pain. I last spoke to him before the break. I don’t know exactly what’s wrong, only that the injury is in his knee," Lynen said about Boniface.

The absence of Boniface is a significant setback for Werder Bremen, particularly as their attacking issues have become increasingly evident.

The team has not scored in their last three matches, and Boniface’s presence would have been a considerable boost.

Nevertheless, Lynen remains optimistic that Bremen will soon overcome their goal-scoring struggles: "The goals will come. It will take time, and I don't know how much, but we'll manage it."

Boniface was expected to help solve Werder's significant attacking problems. Interestingly, Lynen himself holds the record for being the least prolific goalscorer in Werder Bremen's history, having failed to score in 78 league appearances.
