Kun Khalifa Face NPFL Exit Without N1 Billion Financial Support

Kun Khalifat FC of Owerri, Imo State, has issued an urgent appeal for financial support as the club prepares for the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

In a statement signed by the club’s Chief Executive Officer, Michael Chukwudi Amaefule, the management acknowledged the growing challenges of competing at the highest level of Nigerian football, stressing that their continued participation in the NPFL is at risk without external assistance.

Amaefule emphasized that if the team fails to honour fixtures in the new season, it would not be due to a lack of commitment or passion, but rather because of financial constraints beyond the club’s control.

 “We have achieved remarkable milestones, rising from the Nationwide League One (NLO) to the Nigeria National League (NNL) through sheer dedication and sacrifice. However, competing in the NPFL presents an entirely different challenge, with financial requirements running into nearly one billion naira per season,” the statement read.

The CEO described Kun Khalifat FC as “The Pride of Imo State” and urged fans, well-wishers, the Imo State Government, corporate sponsors, and the wider football community to rally behind the club.

 “This is not a plea born out of fear or lack of determination, but a call for partnership to ensure that Imolites continue to enjoy top-flight football. With sponsorship and support, we can overcome these hurdles and represent Imo State with even greater pride,” Amaefule added.

Kun Khalifat FC, which has grown rapidly in recent years, insists that sponsorship and partnerships will not only help sustain its NPFL status but also pave the way for future successes.

The statement concludes with a call for urgent intervention, highlighting that only collective effort can keep the club’s NPFL dream alive.
