Kun Khalifat Reverse Withdrawal, Resume NPFL Campaign

Kun Khalifat FC have reversed their decision to withdraw from the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), returning to the competition less than 24 hours after announcing their exit over what they described as unfair disciplinary measures.

The Owerri-based club confirmed their reinstatement on Thursday following a meeting with the League Management Board, which they said resulted in a positive resolution of all outstanding issues.

Kun Khalifat had earlier pulled out of the league in protest after being sanctioned for failing to honour a fixture against El-Kanemi Warriors, a decision that sparked widespread debate among football stakeholders and supporters across the country.

In a statement signed by the club’s Chief Executive Officer, Michael Amaefula, Kun Khalifat expressed satisfaction with the outcome of discussions and confirmed that the club had been reinstated with immediate effect.

Amaefula said both parties agreed to put the dispute behind them and work together in the interest of Nigerian football. He also commended NPFL officials for engaging constructively with the club’s concerns and pledged improved cooperation going forward.

With the matter resolved, Kun Khalifat will resume their league campaign and are scheduled to face Shooting Stars Sports Club of Ibadan on Sunday, February 8, 2026, at the Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri.

The club has urged supporters to turn out in large numbers for the fixture, describing it as a crucial match in their season. Kun Khalifat also thanked fans for their patience during the brief period of uncertainty and promised an exciting continuation of their NPFL campaign.
