Kwara Defeat Adamawa As National Volleyball League Phase Two Serves Off In Umuahia

The second phase of the National Volleyball Division One and Division Two Leagues officially kicked off on Friday in Umuahia, Abia State, with 34 teams from 22 states in attendance, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

In one of the opening fixtures, Ajase-Ipo Volleyball Team of Kwara started on a bright note, recording a straight-set victory over Adamawa (25–18, 28–27, 25–15) in the Division One category.

The championship, which features both male and female teams, is sponsored by the Abia State Government.

Participating states include Abia, Sokoto, Ekiti, Katsina, Adamawa, Kwara, Bauchi, Bayelsa, Plateau, and several others.

According to the organizers, the top two teams from Division Two will earn promotion to Division One, while the bottom two in Division One will be relegated.

Likewise, the best two teams from Division One will qualify for the prestigious Nigerian Volleyball Premier League.

Speaking during the opening ceremony, Abia State Director of Sports, Obioma George, commended Governor Alex Otti and the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Nwaobilor Ananaba, for transforming Abia into Nigeria’s emerging sports hub, having hosted more than 15 national and international events within the past year.

He added that the Abia female volleyball team, once struggling for form, has been revitalized and now ranks second nationally, assuring all visiting teams of a smooth, fair, and well-organized competition.

Also speaking, Mohammed Mohammed, the 2nd Vice Chairman of the Nigeria Volleyball Referees Association and Referee Coach for the event, pledged impartial officiating and urged players to maintain discipline throughout the tournament.
