Kwara United Fined N9m, Docked Points After Ilorin Stadium Disorder

The Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) has sanctioned Kwara United F.C. for multiple breaches of league regulations following crowd disturbances during their Matchday 22 rearranged fixture on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The match, played at the Kwara State Stadium in Ilorin, was marred by security lapses that led to unauthorized individuals gaining access to restricted areas. According to the league body, the club failed to provide adequate and effective security throughout the fixture.

The NPFL also found that Kwara United did not ensure proper conduct among their supporters, resulting in the harassment and assault of match officials and officials of Rivers United F.C.. The incidents reportedly caused bodily harm and brought the game into disrepute.

In a series of sanctions announced by the league, Kwara United were fined a total of N9 million. The breakdown includes:

N2 million for failing to provide adequate security

N1 million for failing to control supporters

N2 million for the assault on match and Rivers United officials

N1 million for unsporting conduct

N1 million for holding match officials and Rivers United officials hostage for several hours after the game

N2 million as compensation for medical treatment and damages

Beyond financial penalties, the club has been deducted three points and three goals from their accumulated total for the assault on match officials.

Additionally, Kwara United will play their remaining home fixtures at the MKO Abiola Sports Arena in Abeokuta.

The league has further directed the club to identify supporters involved in the assaults to facilitate their arrest and prosecution, with evidence of compliance required.

Kwara United have been given 48 hours from the date of notice to file an appeal against the sanctions.
