Kwara United's Historic Win Earns LSFA, GTI/TNFF High Praise from Football Stakeholders

Experts and football stakeholders have expressed their admiration for the unprecedented full house at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Onikan, as Kwara United emerged winners of the 2025 President Federation Cup, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

They praised the skill and dedication of the Lagos FA, who collaborated diligently with the Nigeria Football Federation to ensure a nearly flawless execution of the country's oldest national football championship.

History was created on Saturday at the renowned Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Onikan, as Kwara United football club triumphed over the formidable Abakaliki FC, concluding their impressive run in the final of the male category of the 2025 President Federation Cup, thus securing their first-ever title after 49 years.

The thrilling match was a battle of strategy and tactical challenges that kept the large crowd at the esteemed MJA stadium on the edge of their seats.

Following a goalless 90 minutes of regulation time, Tunde Sanni's Afonja Warriors emerged victorious, winning 4-3 on penalties to claim the prestigious continental ticket.

In his remarks, while acknowledging the contributions of the NFF and GTI/TNFF leadership, as well as the Lagos State Government in the successful hosting of the championship, Lagos FA chairman Hajji Gafar Liameed commended Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his ongoing support and encouragement for youth empowerment through football.

This marks the second consecutive time we are hosting this esteemed championship, and we appreciate the Lagos State Government, the Lagos State Sports Commission, and of course, the wonderful people of this great state, for making it possible. 

"The current board of the Lagos FA is dedicated to the advancement and growth of the sport within the state, aligning with the state government's declared mission to support and empower the youth of the region," stated the friendly football administrator.

The stakeholders offered special praise to the Lagos FA board for their unwavering determination and commitment to ensuring a successful hosting of the second consecutive edition of the prestigious President Federation Cup.
