Nasarawa State government has mapped out plans to begin renovation works at the Lafia City Stadium ahead of the 2025/2026 football season, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Kwanta Yakubu embarked on a crucial inspection tour of the Lafia City Stadium to assess its condition ahead of the 2025/26 Nigeria Premier Football League Season.
The Commissioner disclosed that the inspection was aimed at effecting some repairs at the facility to meet the NPFL requirements for the State-owned Premier Football League Club, Nasarawa United, to host its home games.
"As you are aware, the new football league season will kickoff in the next few days, and our darling team, Nasarawa United, will be participating, however, we want them to play their home matches at the Lafia City Stadium.
"So, I am here with a contractor who has been mandated to commence work immediately on areas we have identified at the Stadium that require urgent attention, including the football pitch.
"We are also installing floodlights and general lighting of the stadium, fixing the seating, perimeter fencing, the dressing rooms, and other facilities.
"My principal, Governor Abdullahi Sule, has graciously approved the immediate maintenance of the playing turf and otter aforementioned areas of the Stadium.
"As I talk to you, work has already commenced, and I can assure you that all the prerequisites given to us by the NPFL Board shall be met.
"Last weekend, I attended a one-day seminar in Lafia organized by the Nigerian Premier Football League Board and sponsored by the Nasarawa State Government for Clubs' Media Directors, Safeguarding Officers and Chairmen of Supporters' Clubs, where a lot of sensitizations took place, particularly regarding fans' violence.
"As a responsible Government, we have interfaced with the Management of Nasarawa United and other relevant stakeholders to domesticate the outcome of the last seminar among ourselves."
Nasarawa United will Kickstart the 2025/26 NPFL campaign against Niger Tornadoes on the road on Sunday, 24th August, 2025, before hosting their first home match of the season against visiting Abia Warriors on Sunday, 31st August, 2025.
