Lagos Agog For Obasa Games 2025

The Center for Excellence is poised for a remarkable event as more than 10,000 young athletes have officially registered for the highly anticipated 2025 edition of the Obasa Games, set to take place from November 14th to December 13th, reports BSNSports.com.ng.

During a press briefing at the Agege Local Government Secretariat, Moshood Ajibola, Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC), laid out the ambitious plans for this major multi-sport competition.

 "This third edition of the Obasa Games is specifically tailored for athletes aged U18 and U15, encompassing all three Senatorial Districts of Lagos State. We are ready to deliver an exceptional experience."

"Athletes will fiercely compete in seven sports: Football, Chess, Boxing, Scrabble, and Table Tennis, with Athletics and Ayo Olopon making their debut this year."

"The LOC is preparing to execute the screening process for the 10,000+ athletes across various Education Districts in Lagos State.

 "With a substantial prize pool of Twelve Million Naira on the line, this event is poised to attract top talent. Of this amount, ₦6 million is earmarked for the football event, while table tennis and boxing each have ₦2 million designated. The winners in chess, scrabble, ayo, and athletics will each receive Five Hundred Thousand Naira."

Olympian and Nigerian table tennis legend, Bose Kafo, commended the organizers of the Obasa Games, stating, "The Obasa Games is a vital Sports Developmental Programme that prioritizes youth engagement over mere performance. It serves as a vital platform to uplift and guide young people away from negative influences."

The opening ceremony for the 2025 Obasa Games will kick off on November 14th at Awwarul Secondary School.

The elimination rounds for chess, boxing, scrabble, table tennis, athletics, and ayo olopon will unfold from November 17th to 22nd, culminating in the finals at the Agege Stadium Indoor Sports Hall from November 24th to 28th.

Football matches will take place at three venues, including the Abesan Mini Stadium, while this year’s athletics events will focus exclusively on relay races, without any field events.
