Lagos To Host Celebrity Boxing Bout Between Portable and Carter Efe

Social media personalities Habeeb Okikiola Badmus, widely known as Portable, and content creator Carter Efe are set to take their long-running online rivalry into the boxing ring in a celebrity bout scheduled for Lagos, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The fight, billed as “Chaos in the Ring,” will take place on May 1 at the Federal Palace Hotel. The event is being organised by Balmoral Group Promotions in partnership with AK Promotions, a company owned by former world heavyweight boxing champion Amir Khan. The fight night will also be broadcast globally on the sports streaming platform DAZN.

Portable, the controversial “Zazu” singer known for his outspoken persona, and Carter Efe, a popular comedian and content creator with millions of followers online, have engaged in repeated public disagreements across social media platforms. Event promoters say the rivalry has created an opportunity to introduce influencer boxing to the African entertainment and sports landscape.

Ezekiel Adamu, Chief Executive Officer of Balmoral Group Promotions, said the event has received official approval from the Nigeria Boxing Board of Control. According to him, the aim is to promote African boxing talent and present the continent’s fighters to a global audience.

Adamu described the event as an opportunity to place Nigeria and Africa more prominently on the international boxing stage, while highlighting fighters who have built their careers within the region.

Amir Khan also expressed optimism about the event, praising the passion for boxing across Africa. He said the enthusiasm shown by both fans and fighters on the continent makes the upcoming Lagos event particularly exciting.

Beyond the celebrity showdown, the fight card will feature several professional bouts.

In the main professional contest, Nigeria’s Ezra Arenyeka will face compatriot Godday Appah in a cruiserweight bout dubbed the “Niger Delta Peace Fight.”

Other fights include Ghana’s Elvis Ahorgah against Britain’s Joe Laws in a super-middleweight contest, while British boxer Michael McKinson is scheduled to take on Algerian prospect Mohammad Sahnoun.

Nigerian teenage boxer Raheem Animashaun, who became the youngest West African Boxing Union super-lightweight champion after turning professional at the age of 16, will fight Tanzania’s Emmanuel Amos.

In another matchup, Nigeria’s Rasheed Adeyemo will square off against Tanzanian boxer Nicolaus Mdoe. Additional bouts on the card include Basit Adebayo versus Loren Japhet and Samuel Antwi against Paul Kamanga.

Organisers expect the event to attract significant attention from boxing fans in Nigeria and internationally, as celebrity entertainment merges with professional boxing in Lagos.
