Zimbabwean referee Rusununguko Mutero has been suspended from officiating football matches in the country following his substandard performance in a recent Premier Soccer League fixture, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) announced the decision after reviewing Mutero’s handling of the clash between Green Fuel FC and FC Platinum.

According to ZIFA’s statement: “The match commissioner’s report established that Mr. Mutero’s officiating fell below the required standards, thereby breaching paragraph 12 of the Referees’ Code of Conduct.”

Mutero becomes the latest official to face sanctions under ZIFA’s strict crackdown on poor officiating.

Earlier in June 2025, referees Lloyd Mapanje, Grace Gimo, and assistant referee Claris Simango were also punished for unsatisfactory performances in separate PSL matches.

In total, six referees have now been disciplined by the association this season as part of its drive to improve refereeing standards in Zimbabwe’s top flight.
