Leaked Audio: Ex-CAF General Secretary Accused of Threatening FECOFA Staff Amid Governance Crisis

A leaked audio recording has reportedly exposed a tense atmosphere within the Federation Congolaise de Football Association (FECOFA), with its executive committee president, Véron Mosengo, allegedly threatening disciplinary action and dismissals against employees accused of leaking confidential documents, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

According to African News, the seven-minute recording was made during a meeting between Mosengo and FECOFA administrative staff on Monday, where he reportedly demanded loyalty to the current leadership and warned that there would be “no mercy” for those he believes are working against the federation.

The meeting reportedly focused heavily on the disappearance of correspondence from the Court of Arbitration for Sport (TAS) concerning challenges to Mosengo’s election.

Two candidates, Patrice Mangenda and Jean-Claude Mukanya, have appealed to the TAS over the election, which they reportedly consider irregular amid allegations of forgery and falsification.

In the leaked recording, Mosengo questioned how a letter from the TAS requesting the federation’s submissions could have disappeared.

“The court sends us a letter asking us to send our determinations. But the letter disappears. Do you find that normal?” he reportedly said.

Sources cited by African News claimed that the correspondence, which was allegedly sent through DHL following complaints by Mangenda and Mukanya, went missing. 

Other federation officials reportedly said it was only the envelope that disappeared. The required responses, however, were eventually transmitted to the TAS within the deadline.

Mosengo reportedly described the incident as evidence of “internal sabotage” and accused some individuals of creating a “culture of poison” within the federation.

He also warned employees suspected of leaking documents, saying the administration would show “no mercy” towards those considered harmful to the institution.

The FECOFA president reportedly called for loyalty to the executive committee and announced plans to restructure the federation’s organisational chart, create new departments and open applications for positions.

He also reportedly indicated that legal action could be taken against individuals suspected of deliberately undermining the federation and said a firm could be hired to conduct investigations.

Mosengo further criticised the federation’s administrative operations, complaining about delays in responding to correspondence from clubs.

“Even a club that writes, the response takes two months... that's not normal. We need to change,” he reportedly said.

He also promised improvements in equipment and infrastructure as the federation prepares for upcoming football activities.

The leaked recording comes at a difficult period for FECOFA, which is facing disputes surrounding its leadership and governance.

While Mosengo has reportedly sought to tighten control over the administration, the emergence of the recording has raised fresh questions about transparency, internal relations and the handling of sensitive federation matters.

The allegations contained in the leaked audio have not been independently verified, and Mosengo or FECOFA would have the opportunity to respond to the claims.
