Leicester City tracking Taiwo Awoniyi ahead of summer move

Leicester City have become the latest club to throw their hat in the ring for the signature of Union Berlin striker Taiwo Awoniyi, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Awoniyi, 24, joined the German Bundesliga club in the summer on a permanent deal after one season on loan. The striker finally found his home at the newly promoted Bundesliga club after six years on the road as a Liverpool player, where he was sent on seven different loan spells.

In one season, he has also become the club's highest goalscorer in Bundesliga history, with 13 goals so far in the season. The striker is now set for a move away which could earn the Iron Ones their largest ever profit from a transfer.

Valued at €30 million after signing permanently for €6.5 million in the summer, Awoniyi is being courted by Newcastle United, West Ham United and Southampton. BILD now claims that the Nigeria international is one of two Bundesliga players being eyed by the Foxes ahead of next season.

Awoniyi could consider Leicester a genuine destination as he would be reuniting with his international teammates Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho, with whom he played and won the 2013 under 17 World Cup for Nigeria.
