Egypt may be without star forwards Mohamed Salah and Omar Marmoush for their high-profile pre-AFCON friendly against the Super Eagles of Nigeria, as Liverpool and Manchester City are reportedly reluctant to release both players ahead of schedule, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The friendly match, scheduled for 14 December in Cairo, forms part of both teams’ preparations for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
According to Filgoal, the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) is still awaiting official responses from the two Premier League clubs regarding the early release of their players. National team head coach Hossam Hassan has delegated the negotiation process to EFA President Hani Abu Rida, who has already initiated direct discussions with Liverpool and Manchester City.
Salah and Marmoush remain integral to Egypt’s AFCON plans, and their availability for the friendly is seen as crucial to Hassan’s tactical preparations. However, with the match falling outside the official FIFA release window, their participation remains uncertain.
Despite the uncertainty, both Egypt and Nigeria are expected to field strong squads, with the fixture billed as one of the standout warm-up games ahead of the continental tournament in Morocco.
