London 2026: Nigeria, Egypt Among Four African Teams Heading to Table Tennis World Stage

 African table tennis giants Egypt, Nigeria, Tunisia, and Algeria have secured qualifications for the prestigious 2026 ITTF World Team Table Tennis Championships, set to take place in London, United Kingdom, from April 28 to May 10, 2026, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The four nations clinched their tickets to the global event following commanding performances in the group stages of the ongoing 2025 ITTF Africa Championships in Tunis.

Egypt was the first to confirm qualification in the men’s category, delivering dominant wins over Togo and Côte d’Ivoire in Group A. Their top-seeded status in the continent was never in doubt as they cruised through with ease.

Nigeria, true to its legacy in the sport, followed closely in Group B with back-to-back 3-0 victories over Cameroon and South Africa. Fellow group rivals Morocco also qualified after posting wins over the same opponents, setting up a top-of-the-group showdown against Nigeria.

Algeria and hosts Tunisia emerged from Groups C and D respectively, both finishing as group leaders to complete Africa’s contingent for London.

The 2026 edition of the ITTF World Team Championships is a landmark tournament, marking 100 years since the inaugural event and the founding of the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) both of which originated in London in 1926.

This historic centenary edition will feature 64 teams per gender. Qualification is distributed as follows:

52 teams via continental championships (like the African event in Tunis),

11 teams through the ITTF world rankings as of November 2025,

1 automatic spot reserved for host nation England.

London 2026 is expected to be one of the most memorable table tennis gatherings ever held — a celebration of a century of athleticism, global unity, and the enduring legacy of the sport.
