Lookman Falls Short As Atletico Lose Second LaLiga Game

Ibrahim Lateef

Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman quest for a point in the LaLiga took a blow, after Atletico Madrid lost 3-0 to Rayo Vallecano on Sunday, reports BSNSports.com.ng.

It was back-to-back LaLiga loss for the Nigerian who joined Atletico Madrid less than two weeks from Atqlanta.

Diego Simeone's decision to leave Lookman on the bench proved costly as Rayo Vallecano secured a stunning 3-0 victory over Atletico Madrid.

The result marked Rayo’s first head-to-head win against their cross-town rivals in 13 years, ending a winless streak that dated back to February 2013.

While the hosts celebrated a crucial three points in their fight against relegation, much of the post-match scrutiny fell on Atletico manager.

Lookman had entered the match in scintillating form, having recorded a goal and an assist in the midweek 4-0 demolition of Barcelona in the Copa del Rey.

Despite the Nigerian international’s immediate impact since his €40 million move from Atalanta, contributing to four goals in his first three appearances, Simeone opted to rest the star forward ahead of Wednesday's Champions League knockout clash against Club Brugge.
