By Niyi Busari
Ademola Lookman was among the contributors as Atlético Madrid secured their place in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 with a commanding 4–1 victory over Club Brugge on Tuesday night, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The Spanish side progressed from the playoff tie with a 7–4 aggregate triumph following an emphatic performance at the Metropolitano Stadium.
Head coach Diego Simeone initially named Lookman among the substitutes, introducing the Nigerian winger in the 70th minute in place of Alex Baena.
Six minutes after coming on, Lookman made an immediate impact, setting up Alexander Sørloth for Atletico’s third goal of the evening.
Sørloth went on to complete a hat-trick, while Johnny Cardoso added the fourth goal to cap a dominant display from the LaLiga outfit. Club Brugge’s lone strike came from Ecuadorian defender Joel Ordóñez.
Lookman’s assist takes his tally to four goals and three assists in seven appearances across all competitions this season, underlining his growing influence within Simeone’s squad as Atletico continue their European campaign.
