Lookman set to return to his parent club RB Leipzig next Monday for preseason after Leicester City snub

Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman is set to return to his parent club RB Leipzig next Monday for preseason after Leicester City refused to retain his services permanently, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Lookman has had a nomadic career, playing for four different clubs in the last four years. He has featured for Everton, RB Leipzig, Fulham, and Leicester City.

The RB Leipzig winger joined the Foxes last season to support Leicester’s attack on the right wing as well as provide cover for Harvey Barnes on the left. Throughout the first half of the 2021/22 season, Lookman was nothing more than a squad player who made handy contributions here and there.

However, in the second half of the campaign, he rivalled Barnes as the first-choice left winger and was an important player for the squad who reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Europa Conference League. In 40 appearances for Leicester City, Lookman scored eight goals and made five assists.

The 24-year-old made 15 appearances at left wing and scored five of his eight goals in those 15 games. If he were to be played in his preferred position on a more regular basis, then the King Power side could have two quality left wingers performing at a high level each week.

Nonetheless, Lookman could get another shot at proving his worth as he would work under a new manager Domenico Tedesco.

Leipzig are blessed with young attacking talents like Christopher Nkunku who just signed a new contract, Andre Silva who is linked with a move to Barcelona, Emil Forsberg, and Dani Olmo. But it could be a tough task keeping all of them this summer.

If any of them leaves, Lookman could get an advantage. Also, he has the entire preseason to prove to Tedesco that he deserves a first-team slot.
