Losing To Rwanda At Home, Embarrassing, Unacceptable - Siasia, Onazi
By Niyi Busari
Two ex-Super Eagles stars, Samson Siasia and Ogenyi Onazi frowned at the team's loss to Rwanda in the 2025 African Nations Cup qualifying match in Uyo, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
With a ticket at hand before the match, the Super Eagles lost 1-2 to Rwanda at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo, in their last 2025 African Nations Cup group game.
Speaking on the loss at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abuja on Wednesday after the Shehu Dikko novelty match, the former Super Eagles forward and coach, Samson Siasia said, "Losing at home is not good at all at this time. It was like they didn't play to win. But it is understandable why they didn't play as expected, and that was because they have already qualified for the Nations Cup.
"However, they ought not to have forgotten that anytime the Super Eagles play and lose, they will count it against the country and will reflect in FIFA Rankings. It has gone into history that Super Eagles lost at home to Rwanda.
Also reacting, Ogenyi Onazi said, "It is unacceptable that Super Eagles lost to Rwanda at home. I understand that the coach, Austin Eguavoen rested some players but that should not be an excuse because, the newly introduced players supposed to take advantage of that opportunity to convince the coach that they are as good as those in the starting line up."
