Niger Tornadoes narrowly lost to Rivers United in the 2025/26 NPFL rescheduled match day 6 fixture at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The outcome of the game was decided by a single goal scored by Maclyn Biokpo via a penalty kick.

The match got off to a rough start, with the pitch's slippery surface hindering both teams' ability to maintain possession.

The unfavourable conditions made it challenging for both sides to showcase their skills, leading to a struggle for control of the game.

Niger Tornadoes were forced into an early substitution just two minutes into the game when Ahmed Family sustained a head injury while contesting for the ball.

The cut required immediate attention, prompting the coaching staff to bring in Godwin John as a replacement to ensure Family received proper medical care.

The first half ended goalless, with both teams creating only a handful of scoring opportunities. Despite their efforts, neither side could capitalize on their chances, leaving the scoreboard blank at halftime.

Rivers United took the lead just five minutes into the second half when Biokpo converted a penalty kick. The penalty was awarded after the referee deemed Sunday Akinmoladun to have handled the ball in the box.

The Ikon Allah Boys intensified their attack applying relentless pressure in search of an equalizer.

Despite creating scoring opportunities, particularly towards the game's final moments, Mendos and Felix Oloye came closest but couldn't find the target, ultimately missing their chances to level the score.
