Maduka Okoye Has Matured and Reached Desired Level — Udinese Coach

Udinese Calcio head coach Kosta Runjaic has praised the development of Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye, stating that the shot-stopper has matured and is now performing at the level expected of him, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Speaking in comments published on the club’s official website, Runjaic highlighted Okoye’s growth and importance to the team, particularly after a challenging start to life in the Italian top flight.

Okoye initially struggled to secure a regular place following his arrival but has since established himself as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper, delivering a series of impressive performances in the Serie A.

“Okoye’s evolution is in everyone’s eyes. He is important for our defensive phase; he has interpreted decisive moments well and has kept us in the game several times,” Runjaic said.

The coach also commended the 24-year-old’s work ethic and mental development, noting that the goalkeeper has benefited from continuous support from the technical staff, including input from former Swiss international Gokhan Inler.

“I’m very happy with the level he is expressing. We know how his season started; it’s not easy to prepare without playing, but he has worked a lot on himself,” Runjaic added.

“In general, we are working closely with him. Inler often speaks with him, and the goalkeeping coaches are fully involved. He is maturing.

“Every player needs a different period to reach their level. Now he is playing with calmness, focus, and strong mental presence both in matches and in training.”

Runjaic further expressed satisfaction with Okoye’s professionalism and personal growth, emphasizing the goalkeeper’s ability to overcome early setbacks.

“I’m seeing the Maduka I want, and I hope he delivers two more strong performances in the final games. If his stats are good, the whole team benefits.

“I’m also happy with his lifestyle. He is a quiet and introverted person who has worked a lot on himself. Young players can make mistakes, but we supported him, and he found his way out of a difficult situation with excellent performances.”

Okoye’s resurgence has been a key positive for Udinese as they look to finish the season strongly.
