Malawi FA Launches Investigation Into Sexual Harassment Allegations
Sampson Adedeji
The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has launched an investigation into allegations of sexual harassment involving one of its Executive Committee members.
The official is accused of harassing a senior player from the Malawi women’s national football team, the Scorchers, during a recent trip to South Africa, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Reports indicate that the official allegedly sent inappropriate messages and entered the player’s hotel room, pressuring her for sex in exchange for money.
The player reportedly rejected all advances.
In response to the allegations, FAM released a statement acknowledging the seriousness of the situation: “FAM has taken serious note of allegations of sexual misconduct involving a member of the Malawi Women’s National Team (The Scorchers) delegation during a recent international engagement.”
The statement further added, “FAM has, therefore, instituted a formal inquiry to investigate and make findings on the matter. This process will be undertaken under applicable rules and policies that ensure fairness and justice for all parties involved.”
FAM emphasized its commitment to safeguarding: "FAM wishes to assure the general public and all stakeholders that it remains fully committed to the safety, dignity, and wellbeing of all its players and officials in line with its safeguarding policy.”
The incident reportedly occurred during the Scorchers’ recent visit to South Africa for international friendlies.
Malawi lost both matches against Banyana Banyana—3-0 on April 5 and 2-1 on April 8, 2025.
