The has shortlisted five candidates from the 28 applications received for the vacant position of Eagles head coach following the expiration of Tom Saintfiet’s contract, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The federation, also known as Femafoot, announced on Tuesday evening that the selection process was based on key criteria including possession of a CAF Pro Licence, UEFA Pro Licence or equivalent qualification, coaching experience, and the sporting project submitted by each applicant.

Among the five candidates selected for the final stage are Florent Ibenge of DR Congo, Mohamed Magassouba of Mali, Badou Zaki of Morocco, alongside Portuguese coaches Antonio Conceição and Anthony Da Silva.

One of the major surprises from the announcement was the omission of former Mali international Fousseni Diawara, who had earlier declared his interest in the position.

According to the federation, the shortlisted candidates will now undergo interviews with the ad hoc committee set up to oversee the recruitment process before a final decision is made on the next coach of the Eagles.
