Manchester City scored three second-half goals to secure a 3-0 win over a resilient Brighton and ascend back to the top of the English Premier League table, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Brighton had won their last two Premier League matches, against Arsenal and Tottenham, and for the entirety of the first half, frustrated Pep Guardiola's side.

Despite the frustration, the hosts dominated possession, but could not create a clear chance in the opening 20 minutes.

After a frustrating and nervy 45 minutes, City finally took the lead eight minutes into the second half and it was from none other than Riyad Mahrez.

The winger got to the end of a quick counter-attack to stab home, even though his shot was helped in by a Lewis Dunk deflection.

It went from bad to worse for the ‘Seagulls’ twelve minutes later when Phil Foden’s fizzing shot from outside of the box took a deflection in the box and fired past Robert Sánchez for a 2-0 lead.

Bernardo Silva then sealed the win eight minutes from time, finding the back fo the net from close range for a 3-0 lead.

The win ensured City moved back to the top of the table, a point above Liverpool, who beat Man United 4-0 on Tuesday night.

Up next for City is a home tie against Watford on Saturday.
