Match-Fixing Scandal: Cross Rivers FA Bans Coach, Indicts Cynosure FC Chairman

The Cross River State Football Association (CRSFA) has indicted Prince Chidiebere Nweze, Chairman of Cynosure FC of Abakaliki, in connection with a match manipulation scandal involving a Nationwide League One (NLO) fixture, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Following an investigation by the CRSFA’s Organising and Disciplinary Committee, Udeme Alloy Ulor, Head Coach of May & Frank FC of Calabar, has been banned for two years from all football-related activities. The committee also recommended further disciplinary action by relevant national and international football bodies.

In a letter dated June 19, 2025, and signed by Greg Abang, Chairman of the Organising/Disciplinary Committee, the CRSFA detailed findings from the probe into the NLO match played between May & Frank FC and Cynosure FC at the U.J. Esuene Stadium, Calabar, on May 6, 2025.

Key Findings:

A recorded phone conversation between Coach Ulor and Chairman Nweze confirmed discussions relating to the manipulation of the match's outcome.

During the hearing, an audio tape featuring the voices of both individuals was presented as evidence.

Coach Ulor admitted the authenticity of the conversation and his role in the attempted manipulation.

Committee Rulings:

1. Coach Udeme Alloy Ulor was found guilty of violating anti-corruption and integrity rules set by the CRSFA, NLO, NFF, and FIFA.

2. He has been banned for two years from participating in all football activities, both within Nigeria and internationally.

3. The case has been referred to the NFF Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit, with a recommendation for further action in line with FIFA’s global integrity standards.

The decision, according to the committee, was taken in good faith and in accordance with the ethical and disciplinary guidelines governing football at all levels.
