Maximum Security Activated In The Premier League
Sampson Adedeji
Security has been significantly heightened across the Ghana Premier League following a directive from the Inspector General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
According to reports, the police chief has instructed all regional and district commanders to provide armed escorts for every team participating in the league, as part of urgent measures to safeguard players, officials, and matchday personnel.
The move comes in the wake of a tragic armed robbery incident that claimed the life of promising Ghanaian footballer Dominic Fringpong, sending shockwaves through the country’s football community.
The incident has raised serious concerns about the safety of players and teams, particularly during travel, prompting swift intervention from security authorities.
With the new directive in place, teams will now be accompanied by armed police units to and from match venues, as well as during other official movements, in a bid to prevent further incidents and restore confidence within the league.
Football stakeholders in Ghana are expected to welcome the development, as efforts intensify to ensure that the domestic game continues under secure and controlled conditions.
