Nasarawa United Technical Adviser, Mangut Mbwas, has blamed his side's defeat against Niger Tornadoes on defensive mishap, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

In a tightly contested North Central derby match, the Solid Miners fell to a 1-0 defeat to Niger Tornadoes on the road in both teams' 2025/26 Nigeria Premier Football League season's opener on Wednesday at the Kwara State Sports Stadium, Ilorin.

The hosts' lone goal courtesy of former Solid Miners' attacker, Terdoo Shimagande, in the 24th minute, proved decisive, as he capitalized on a momentary lapse in defence to secure the win for his new club. United created numerous chances, including misses from Ugochukwu Leonard, Abubakar Abdullahi, Umar Adah, and Salomon Chigoziem, as the ball refused to find the back of the net, as Tornadoes bravely held on to the slim scoreline to win the bragging rights.

He said: "We actually started this game very well, however, we conceded the goal so carelessly. We tried to change the rhythm and momentum of the game after that, by introducing some fresh legs in the second half, and we created a lot of chances, but this is football, anything can happen.

"Going forward, the league just started, and it's a marathon race. Every club is very conscious of his performance, especially at home.

"We will return home, review the challenges to correct our mistakes to win our next game of the campaign."

United will look to regroup and refine their strategy, aiming to bounce back stronger in their next match against Abia Warriors at home on Sunday, 31st August, 2025.
