Medeama Must Recruit Other African Players To Beat Remo Stars -Ex- Asante Kotoko Coach
Ibrahim Lateef
Bashir Hayford has advised Medeama Sporting Club to recruit players from other African countries to stand a chance of eliminating Remo Stars in the 'Jollof Derby' first preliminary round of the CAF Champions League, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
In an interview with Mother FM, the former Asante Kotoko
underlined the importance of adding great players from across the continent to their rosters.
He stated that successful African clubs frequently explore beyond their national borders to obtain talent that can significantly improve their performance in continental tournaments.
Hayford challenged Medeama SC to be aggressive in identifying and recruiting talent from around Africa in order to overcome these challenges and make a difference in the competitions.
“Our clubs perform poorly in Africa. Some were even eliminated from the preliminary round (just after two games).
“They should put things in place and prepare well. It will be good for them to beef up their squad. If they want to perform well then they should start scouting players in Africa like other African clubs.â€
Medeama's last participation in CAF inter-club competitions was in 2016, where they reached the group stages after eliminating South African giants Mamelodi Sundowns in the playoff.
The first preliminary round is scheduled to take place from 18 to 20 August for the first leg matches and 25 to 27 August for the second leg encounters.
The second preliminary will come off 15 to 17 September for the first leg games, and the returning fixtures are from September 19 to October 1.
The winner on aggregate will take on Guinean giants Horoya AC in the second preliminary round, and the winner from there will make it to the group stage.
