Meet Five Nigerians Set to Feature in Expanded 2025 FIFA Club World Cup

As the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup kicks off in the United States on Sunday, five Nigerian players are poised to represent their clubs on the global stage, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

This edition of the tournament marks a historic expansion, increasing the number of participating teams from seven to 32, bringing greater representation from across the continents—including at least three African clubs.

Among the standout Nigerian players set to feature are; Onuche Ogbelu – Espérance de Tunis (Tunisia).

Ogbelu’s football journey began at Fosla Academy, where he led the team to victory in the 2021 Principal’s Cup. He later joined Nasarawa United in December 2022 before securing a move to Tunisian giants Espérance de Tunis in September 2023 on a three-year deal. The midfielder is expected to play a key role for the North African powerhouse.

Zaidu Sanusi – FC Porto (Portugal)

Left-back Zaidu Sanusi has become a mainstay for FC Porto since signing a five-year contract with the Portuguese giants. Known for his pace and attacking runs, Sanusi scored his first UEFA Champions League goal in a 2–1 victory over Marseille and has since helped Porto clinch multiple titles, including the Primeira Liga, Taça de Portugal, and Supertaça Cândido de Oliveira. His contributions will be pivotal as Porto take on the world’s best.

Three Nigerians at Al Ain (UAE)

Saudi Pro League club Al Ain will feature three Nigerian players in their squad: Rilwanu Haliru Sarki – A dynamic left winger known for his creativity.

Joshua Udoh – A promising forward with an eye for goal.

Hassan Sani Mohammed – A young and agile goalkeeper.

Their presence strengthens Al Ain’s squad depth as the club looks to make a strong impression in this expanded tournament.
