Mixed Fortunes For Nigeria's Representatives In CAF Club Competitions

It was a tale of mixed fortunes for Nigerian teams in the 2025/2026 CAF Club Competitions on Sunday across the continent, BSNSports.com.ng reports. 

Reigning Nigeria champions, Remo Stars showcased class in their encounter at the M.K.O Abiola Sports Arena in Abeokuta, defeating US Zilimadjou. 

The Sky Blue Stars scored four past their opponents in a scintillating fashion to take a healthy advantage into the second leg billed for the same stadium.

Leonard Ngenge opened the scoring for the hosts inside 12 minutes when he slammed home in the box off a lose ball from a corner kick before Ebuka Anthony extended the lead at the brink of halftime off a training ground routine. 

At the restart, Malian Adama Goita headed home the third after a deft cross by Ibrahim Abubakar while Samson Olasupo completed the rout off the bench. 

At the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, Abia Warriors suffered a setback after conceding late into the game against Djoliba AC of Mali.

Emeka Obioma got the opener for the Umu Chineke Boys in the 21st off a precise header from a brilliant cross.

However, the CAF debutants failed to add a second goal and suffered a late equaliser as both sides shared the spoils in the CAF Confederation Cup. 

Another CAF Confederation Cup hopeful, Kwara United displayed a spirited display away to Asante Kotoko in Ghana in a goal fest but suffered a 4-3 defeat. 

Despite ending the first half two apiece, the Tunde Sanni led side capitulated in the second half to a brave performance by the Ghanaian heavyweights. 

On Saturday, Rivers United picked a crucial draw off their hosts, Les Aigles du Congo in the CAF Champions League first leg preliminary round encounter.
